ADVANCED SOCIAL CONVERSATION

 
     

Berlitz English, levels (5-8) also incorporates a number of specialized supplementary courses to focus more directly on specific social skills. All follow the same format as Berlitz English. The social specializations are

Arts and Entertainment

Learn English through popular entertainment! Using real articles, online sources, and news and entertainment excerpts form numerous Berlitz partners, this course aims to help every student build conversational fluency and confidence.

In addition, knowledge on common everyday words, idioms and slang are covered in the lessons, where students can expect to come across samples from popular media, including CNN broadcasts, leading radio programs, recording artists, and magazine articles and reviews.

 

Pronunciation

This course helps students develop more accurate intonation, stress, and rhythm while building general English language skills and everyday vocabulary.

Students who complete this course are able to speak with a more natural rhythm and are likewise able to adjust their pitch more precisely to signal questions and suggest subtle nuances. Furthermore, they are able to communicate more effectively with native and non-native English speakers alike.

The course mainly focuses on building confidence, fluency, and accuracy in speaking. The course give attention to the development of a more natural intonation, stress, and rhythm by using extended passages rather than individual sounds to create more accurate speech. Lastly it helps students overcome chronic difficulties in pronunciation.

 

Social Situations

This course helps students handle various social situations with more confidence using the English language. Students who have completed this course are able to make small talk in both a social and a business setting, recover from embarrassing situations, and help out someone else struggling in a conversation.

They will also learn the best—and polite—ways to start and end a conversation and how to respond tactfully during difficult situations. Students studying this course are also given cultural insights needed to function in both social and business settings.
